This digital painting was inspired by the Biblical images of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. I had a lot of fun working in details and symbols such as rotting fruit vs. golden apples, winter vs. summer, the serpent with his head crushed, the crucified figure bleeding on the tree, and blood creating a transition between the two halves of the scene. My decision to make one half a reflection of the other was inspired both by the parallel imagery and by the Bible verse that says we see the perfect future “as in a mirror, dimly.”
